Club Spotlight: Soccer Club
Soccer Club is a newly formed club that has gained a lot of traction. Founder Kevin Zheng ‘26 says he started looking for a club to fulfill his passion for the sport. But he could not find a club to fulfill his desire, so started Soccer Club with Mr, Matthew Zealand of the Upper School Modern Languages Department. Soccer Club meets on A-Week Tuesdays during lunch and welcomes anyone who would like to join. It normally hosts activities from watching games and highlights to trivia games and actual soccer games on the oval.
Soccer Club has now amassed over 20 members. Many members, such as Felix Laub ‘27, David Liang ‘27, and Roman Cihak ‘28, found a passion for the sport through family and began to play at a very young age. Soccer is a sport that brings communities together and is a sport to be celebrated due to its popularity all across the globe. Many members found love through memorizing skill moves and fantastic goals the players have mastered. Soccer, a sport loved by billions, is very unappreciated in our country, but the beauty of the game can encompass anyone who follows it. Kevin is attempting to bring the worldwide sport to our very own community, expanding its influence over the school.
Abadi Aljarallah ‘28 thinks the club gets people enthusiastic about what they love, with many feeling a rush of excitement when they enter the club. This excitement brings them back to the club whenever it meets. The club is full of activities which the community loves to enjoy. There is a wide variety of people in the club, who support many different teams, from European giants like Bayern Munich to smaller Saudi clubs like Al Hilal, this wide variety also sparks many debates inside the club which many love to participate in. Soccer Club is an up and coming club that is open to everyone, taking in the world's sport into the Gilman community.
